A Colombian woman who was rescued after being trapped for nearly 37 hours under the rubble in the wake of a strong earthquake has died of her injuries, her family told AFP on Saturday.

Along with her death comes the painful realization that the chances of finding survivors are dwindling, as rescue teams continue to search for hundreds of missing people after this week's devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake, AFP said.

Daniela Largo, 32, was pulled from the debris on Tuesday in the city of Pereira to shouts of joy and applause, becoming a symbol of hope for a nation reeling from Monday's disaster.

Largo, who died on Friday, leaves behind a 12-year-old son.

"I just want this all to be over quickly," Largo's mother Sandra Milena Perez told AFP.

Monday's earthquake has so far killed at least 294 people and injured nearly 4,000, authorities say.

Rescuers are still searching for at least 320 people who are unaccounted for, according to data from the disaster management agency. In the most devastated areas, workers are using heavy machinery to remove pieces of roofs and walls.

Residents of hard-hit Pereira are still hoping for a miracle, but optimism is fading.

"If there is someone alive, it would be a miracle, but I don't think there's anyone alive underneath," said Fernando Gaitan, a 55-year-old restaurant delivery worker.

Rescuers have brought in heavy machinery to help remove large sections of roofs and walls and are visibly fatigued after days of grueling work.

"We're going to stay until the last person is recovered," firefighter corporal Javier Jimenez told AFP.

- Appeal to Trump -

When the country's new president Abelardo de la Espriella took office August 7, the news was celebrated by US President Donald Trump, who backed the flamboyant right-winger's candidacy.

On Saturday, De la Espriella said he had a "friendly" 10-minute phone call with Trump, and sought a temporary suspension of the tariffs imposed by the United States, to bring relief during its reconstruction phase.

Tariffs were raised at the end of July from 10 percent to 12.5 percent, with exceptions for some goods such as coffee and oil.

Suspending tariffs would help "our businesspeople who are facing very difficult times because of the effects of the earthquake," De la Espriella said.

He also thanked the US for $26.5 million in aid and the support of its rescue teams, as well as Israel for sending humanitarian assistance and rescuers.

More than 14,000 homes collapsed in the quake. The most hard-hit cities of Cali, Pereira and Manizales will require reconstruction costing millions.

De la Espriella plans to declare a state of economic emergency to empower him to set taxes or reorganize the budget without the approval of Congress.

South Korea's military last week fired warning shots after North Korean soldiers violated the military demarcation line, prompting them to return, Yonhap news agency reported on Sunday, citing an unnamed source.

Yonhap said multiple ‌North Korean ‌soldiers crossed the military ‌demarcation line (MDL) in the eastern area of the demilitarized zone, in the first reported MDL violation by the North Korean military this year.

The soldiers were likely patrolling ‌the ‌area when they crossed the MDL, ‌and no other unusual ‌activity was reported after the North Korean soldiers returned, Yonhap said.

The North Korean embassy ‌in Singapore did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

North Korean troops violated the MDL 17 times last year, the news agency said.

The two Koreas are still technically at war after their 1950-53 war ended in an armistice rather than a peace treaty.

Around 5,000 people have been evacuated after a magnitude-7.7 earthquake smashed an area in eastern Indonesia, killing at least 51, blocking roads and causing landslides, authorities said on Sunday.

Thirty-six people were seriously injured in the Saturday morning quake in East Nusa Tenggara province, while 77 had minor injuries, Deputy Health Minister Benjamin Paulus Octavianus told a televised meeting.

The quake, followed by some 341 aftershocks, is the Southeast Asian nation's deadliest since a 2022 quake killed hundreds in West Java.

More than 3,300 people in the ‌Sikka region ‌self-evacuated or were in a sports arena, said ‌the disaster mitigation agency BNPB.

Some Sikka residents were stranded outside collapsed homes under a makeshift tent made out of tarp, while some people received treatment in a tent outside a hospital in the port town of Maumere.

"I only brought my body," Abdul Mutas, 63, told Reuters after he and his family slept on a tarp surrounded by trees in the town of Sikka.

"The tides were rising, so ‌we ran," he said, describing their ‌reaction to the quake.

"Almost all of Sikka's residents didn't dare stay ‌indoors, so they slept on a porch or a tent ‌outside," Simon Subandi, deputy regent of Sikka, told news channel KompasTV.

More than 3,500 military and police officers have been deployed to the region, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a statement.

Rescuers reached parts of Maumere ‌that had been blocked by landslides, Indonesia's search and rescue agency said. There was no immediate count of those missing, but most of them were trapped under rubble, and more than 1,300 homes were damaged, BNPB said.

Twenty petrol stations were not operational due to power outages, said state energy firm Pertamina.

The East Nusa Tenggara government is considering declaring an emergency for the province, BNPB said, which would allow authorities to mobilize resources and funding.

The area of the quake was hit in 1992 by a magnitude-7.5 earthquake that caused extensive destruction, Indonesia's geophysics agency said.

Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago of 290 million people, straddles the "Pacific Ring of Fire", a seismically active zone where tectonic plates meet, triggering frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
