«جيش سوريا الحرة»: قصف التنف هدفه إثارة صراعات جانبية

عدّ قائد فصيل «جيش سوريا الحرة»، العقيد محمد فريد القاسم، في حوار مع «الشرق الأوسط»، أن القصف الذي تتعرض له بين الفينة والأخرى قاعدة التنف على الحدود السورية - العراقية - الأردنية هدفه إثارة «صراعات جانبية».
وينتشر فصيل «جيش سوريا الحرة» («مغاوير الثورة» سابقاً) في قاعدة التنف إلى جانب جنود من قوات التحالف الدولي الذي تقوده الولايات المتحدة. وتتعرض القاعدة أحياناً لهجمات بطائرات مسيّرة تُلقى المسؤولية فيها على فصائل مدعومة من إيران.
وأكد القاسم في حواره مع «الشرق الأوسط»، أن فصيله هو الوحيد الموجود في منطقة الـ55 كلم، وهي عبارة عن حزام أمني أقامه الأميركيون حول التنف بهدف منع الاقتراب من القاعدة. ووجه القاسم أصابع الاتهام إلى ميليشيات مسلحة مرتبطة بإيران بالاستهدافات التي تتعرض لها التنف، مقراً في الوقت نفسه بألا أدلة مثبتة على ذلك. وأضاف أن الهدف من الهجمات هو «زج المنطقة في صراعات جانبية لا تصبّ في خدمة الشعب السوري، وجعلها ساحة لتمرير مشاريع تخريبية ومنطقة غير مستقرة كونها تتمتع بأهمية جغرافية استراتيجية لوجودها في عقدة التنف التي تعد نقطة التقاء الحدود السورية والعراقية والأردنية».
وأضاف قائد «جيش سوريا الحرة» أنهم «قوة سورية مناهضة للنظام، دفعتها تدخلات حلفاء النظام السوري بالمسألة السورية إلى بناء تحالفات دولية تعزز مطالبهم، وتحقق تطلعاتهم في بناء سوريا الجديدة»، مشدداً على أنهم «منفتحون للتعاطي مع كل الفرق السورية ليكونوا جزءاً من تحالف أو مشروع سوري موحد وجامع ضد النظام السوري وتنظيم (داعش)».
وعن عمليات تهريب المخدرات والسلاح عبر الحدود السورية - الأردنية، أشار العقيد القاسم إلى أن الدوريات المكثفة والمستمرة التي ينفّذها «جيش سوريا الحرة» وقوات التحالف في المنطقة على الحدود السورية الجنوبية مع الأردن، والسورية مع الحدود العراقية، «حدّت من عمليات تهريب المخدرات والسلاح، وهذا من ضمن أولويات العمل في المنطقة»، مؤكداً أنهم «حققوا نتائج إيجابية كبيرة خلال الأشهر الأربعة الماضية في مكافحة عمليات التهريب»، موضحاً أن آخر العمليات التي قاموا بها تضمنت «إحباط تهريب مخدرات» قبل أيام.

الأردن يوسّع مشاورات «عودة سوريا»

الأسد ورئيسي يتفقان على «تعاون استراتيجي طويل الأمد»

Flights Resume Gradually in Indonesia After Volcanic Eruption

Indonesia had planes flying again on Tuesday after a volcanic eruption forced the country's major airports to close for days, with authorities saying that flights would resume gradually.

The disruption, caused by the eruption of Anak Krakatau, halted nearly 3,000 flights and stranded more than 340,000 passengers.

The country's main airport serving the capital Jakarta and four other airports reopened early Tuesday after authorities cleared volcanic ash from critical infrastructure.

Transport minister Dudy Purwagandhi told reporters it would take time for flight schedules to return to normal.

Dudy said there were around 178 aircraft at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta's main air travel hub.

"We will be operating these aircraft, but before we do so, we want to ensure their airworthiness. So, it may take a bit of extra time," he said.

"We ask for a little patience from passengers and the public, as we will be carrying out inspections to ensure that these aircraft are fit to fly," he added.

The transport minister said three flights departed shortly after the airport reopened, including two commercial flights to eastern Indonesia.

Airport operator Angkasa Pura Indonesia said in a statement that volcanic ash had been cleared from the runway and other areas to ensure the facilities were safe for flights.

Anak Krakatau, which means Child of Krakatau, sits in a strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra.

The volcano erupted at least three times on Tuesday morning alone, according to the head of the Geology Agency, Lana Saria.

It has been sporadically active since it emerged from the sea nearly a century ago in the caldera formed after the 1883 eruption of Mount Krakatau.

A 2018 tsunami triggered by a collapse of parts of Anak Krakatau killed more than 400 people and displaced thousands.

France: Thieves Steal Works Worth $10 Mn from Renoir Museum

Two thieves broke into a museum dedicated to French impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir in southern France on Tuesday, stealing "four works of art", one of which they dropped as they fled, a mayor said.

"This morning, two individuals broke into the Renoir Museum and stole four works of art," said Bryan Masson, the far-right mayor of the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer.

"Spotted thanks to the town's video surveillance cameras, the two individuals fled, abandoning one of the stolen paintings as they ran," he said, adding his office estimated the value of the stolen works at 9 million euros ($10 million).

The Renoir Museum was opened in 1960 in the painter's last home before his death in 1919.

Its collection includes objects and furniture that belonged to Renoir, including his easel and wheelchair, as well as portraits, landscapes, and nudes painted by the artist.

The mayor said it took just five minutes for the authorities to respond.

"The museum alarm went off at 5:48 am. At 5:53 am, just five minutes later, our municipal police were on the scene," AFP quoted him as saying.

The theft comes less than a year after eight items valued at around $100 million were stolen during a daylight robbery from the Louvre in Paris.

The four suspected Louvre robbers have been arrested, but the stolen items have still not been found despite extensive searches by French investigators in the Paris region and exchanges with police in Belgium, Italy and beyond.

China’s Exports Pick Up in August, Jumping 25% as Its Trade Surplus Widens

China’s exports jumped 25% in August from a year earlier on strong demand for autos and high-tech goods as its record trade surplus widened further, its customs agency said Tuesday.

The data was broadly in line with what economists had expected and comes just ahead of a planned meeting between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump. That's set for late September, though Beijing has not yet confirmed the exact date for the visit.

Trade is expected to be among the key topics of discussion between Trump and Xi when the two leaders meet.

China’s global imports climbed 28.2% in August from a year earlier, up from July’s 27.5% rise. Exports grew 23.9% year-on-year in July. The trade surplus expanded in August to $119.1 billion from $112.5 billion in July.

Policymakers in the US and elsewhere have raised concerns over China’s ballooning trade surplus, which surged to a record $1.2 trillion for the whole of last year. Beijing has said that it is not seeking to maximize its trade surplus.

In August, China's exports to the US totaled $42.5 billion, up 34.4% year-on-year, in part due to a base effect after higher US tariffs caused exports to fall last year. US exports to China last month were $13.3 billion, leaving a trade surplus in China's favor of about $29.2 billion, according to Chinese data.

Exports to the EU rose 6.6%, while those to Southeast Asia and Latin America rose 30.2% and 17.5%, respectively.

Exports have consistently outpaced imports and are “set to lead to a new record-high trade surplus this year,” said Lynn Song, chief economist for Greater China at the Dutch bank ING.

China has weathered disruptions from the Iran war better than many other countries. It also has been exporting more to Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa, shielding it from the impact of higher US tariffs.

Exports of autos in August grew 43% year-on-year while semiconductor exports surged 129.8%, the customs data show.

“China is very competitive in its tech goods exports,” said Chi Lo, a senior market strategist for Asia Pacific at BNP Paribas Asset Management. In recent months, rising exports of electric vehicles, industrial machinery and semiconductors have helped fuel China’s robust shipments globally.

“China has moved aggressively up the value chain and has become a major player in AI infrastructure and industrial automation,” he said.

At home, China is still struggling to boost its economy as consumption and investment remained sluggish following a yearslong real estate sector downturn. On Sunday, China said it was injecting around $54 billion into state banks and insurers to help lift its economy.

China's continued reliance on exports to fuel growth prompted 19 members of the Group of 20 large economies to agree to address such economic imbalances at a recent meeting of top financial officials in Asheville, North Carolina. China was the lone dissenting G20 member after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described China’s trade surplus as a barrier to global economic growth.

The strategic stalemate between China and the US will likely remain, said Lo of BNP Paribas. “Both sides hold each other hostage in some strategic products, with the US withholding high-end tech goods from being sold to China and China withholding rare-earth exports to the US,” he said.

China and the EU are also set to meet for ministerial level trade talks in the fall, as the EU struggles to reduce its roughly 1 billion euros-a-day trade deficit with China.

The EU implemented measures in July to protect its steel industry and has limited tax-exempt imports of Chinese e-commerce small parcels.
