Oil prices eased on Friday but were heading for weekly gains on the uncertainty over Middle East supplies and a larger-than-expected crude stocks draw in the United States.

Brent crude futures fell 71 cents, or 0.67%, to $105.21 a barrel by 0352 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures were down 77 cents, or 0.79%, to $97.20, Reuters reported.

WTI settled up more than 3% on Thursday after a big US crude stock draw on hurricane production shut-ins.

For this week so far, Brent increased 0.44%, while WTI jumped 5.81%.

"Uncertainty in the Middle East ‌and concerns ‌over the sustainability of oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz ‌has the market pricing in a significant risk premium," ING analysts wrote in a note on Friday.

There needs to be some kind of agreement between the US and Iran to provide the market with more confidence that stronger oil flows from the region will continue, they added.

Supply jitters also rose as attacks around the Strait of Hormuz have surged over the past 10 days, with Iran saying it was stepping up strikes in response to the US blockade of its ports and tougher sanctions introduced last month.

Total Hormuz ‌clearance averaged 11.62 million barrels per day over seven ‌days to October 13, about 68% of the 17.15 million bpd baseline, according to ship ‌tracking firm Kpler.

"Intensified Iranian attacks drove Gulf crude flows sharply lower," Kpler analysts said ‌in a report on Thursday, adding that they expected a slower and more uneven Hormuz recovery, without a comprehensive political deal.

The Houthis fired missiles at the presidential palace complex in the southern city of Aden on Thursday, killing two guards.

The International Energy Agency agreed on Thursday to release over 20 million barrels of diesel to the market and any oil remaining from a record release of emergency reserves pledged in March to boost supply and cool soaring prices.

During the previous trading session, oil prices rose overnight in a sign that "investors were dissatisfied with these measures," Haitong Futures said in a note on Friday.

"What would really cool the oil market is an easing of tensions in the Middle East."

The Trump administration is considering lifting sanctions on some so-called shadow fleet vessels that have transported oil and petroleum products from countries including Russia, Iran and Venezuela, in an effort to reduce record-high global freight rates, a US official said on Wednesday.

The discussions come days after US President Donald Trump temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian diesel fuel, a move met with criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, European countries and some of Trump's fellow Republicans.

There is much debate over who should win the Ballon d'Or this year, but if Lamine Yamal's recent form continues over the season, handing out next year's award would be simple.

The teenage winger was at his mesmerizing best as Barcelona waltzed to a 4-1 win at Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday, to make it 10 victories from 10 matches this season across all competitions, said AFP.

Hansi Flick's irresistible side have scored 43 goals in that spell, including seven in the last two games, even without talisman Raphinha.

A sensational dribble from Yamal helped create a goal for Anthony Gordon in Istanbul, and the winger's inviting cross also carved out another for Fermin Lopez.

"I don't know what to call it, it was an almost-rabona dribble," Yamal told Movistar.

"It came off well to set up Gordon, that's the main thing, that it was effective at the end of the day."

Yamal had a moment of luck when the ball bounced off the defender back to him but showed excellent reflexes and speed to keep it in and find the former Newcastle winger.

The 19-year-old was named player of the match and earned lavish praise from his coach after another performance in which his ability to beat defenders and generate danger proved decisive.

"It's amazing to have a player like him on this level. He changed the game for us and this was really good," Barca coach Flick told reporters.

"In the second half he was fantastic, how he dominated the game, the (final ball)... it's unbelievable what he's doing."

Yamal has eight goals and nine assists in 10 games for Barcelona this season.

However, perhaps the most impressive aspect of Barcelona's start has been that their attacking brilliance has not depended on any one player.

Raphinha's absence has given former Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus an opportunity to step in successfully, while Karim Adeyemi has added goals and electric speed when needed to replace Gordon.

In midfield, Flick can call on Gavi and Dani Olmo among others without his side losing its identity, while Dutchman Frenkie de Jong is soon to return from injury.

That depth will become increasingly important as Barcelona enter the most demanding part of their autumn.

Critics have pointed out that they have yet to face one of Europe's elite sides, with Galatasaray away arguably their toughest assignment so far.

That argument will be tested this weekend as Barcelona face Manuel Pellegrini's high-flying Real Betis at La Cartuja.

The Andalusian side are third in La Liga, five points behind Barca and one ahead of Real Madrid.

Creative playmaker Isco and former Barca winger Ez Abde are among Betis's main weapons and Barcelona's defense has shown enough vulnerability to suggest they could be punished if they switch off.

After Betis come kings of Europe Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and then the Clasico on October 25 against Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid in La Liga.

Those heavyweight tests will be a good barometer for Barca's trophy prospects this season and a chance for Yamal and Co to show they can sustain their remarkable scoring form against the very best.

After winning the World Cup with Spain, there is a good chance Yamal is crowned the world's best player on October 26, but right now he is playing at a far higher level than during Spain's success this summer.

Ukraine's resumption of ‌strikes on Russian refineries is a 'disgrace' that keeps global energy prices elevated, US President Donald Trump told the Newsmax news outlet in an interview aired on Thursday.

Ukraine struck a Russian oil refinery after President Volodymyr Zelenskiy declared that Kyiv was abandoning a ceasefire covering energy sites that Trump had announced, and criticized his willingness to strike deals with Moscow.

"All he's doing is making the world oil price higher. Well, I think that's a disgrace," Trump said ‌in the ‌interview, after Ukraine hit a Rosneft refinery ‌southeast of Moscow which helps to supply the Russian capital, said Reuters.

"There are a lot of targets you can hit, but when you shoot at diesel refineries where you make, you know, diesel oil, and we need that, and the world needs that, then he's not doing a good service for the world."

Russia rained down missile and drone strikes, targeting energy ‌facilities such as power stations, ‌knocking out supply to hundreds of thousands, and Zelenskiy told ‌the Financial Times that Ukraine's patience had run out.

Trump's administration ‌has been trying to mediate a ceasefire deal to end the war that started with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

He repeated to Newsmax his belief that Zelenskiy and ‌Russian President Vladimir Putin hate each other, which makes it hard to end the conflict.

"I'm not a big fan of Zelenskiy," Trump said. "I think they actually both would like to see it end, but I think I find Zelenskiy to be more difficult to deal with than Putin."

As Trump pressured Kyiv to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries, Ukraine faced reduced usage of a satellite system on which it relies for battlefield communications and drone operations.

The order came from inside the White House, said two US officials and a Western official briefed on the matter, without specifying who there made the decision or was responsible for implementing the order.
