جنحت 910 دلافين على الأقل على شواطئ المحيط الأطلسي الفرنسية، منذ منتصف ديسمبر (كانون الأول) الماضي، وفقاً لإحصاء جديد صادر عن «مرصد المحيطات» (بيلاجيس) الذي سجل موجة جنوح جديدة «شديدة» لأكثر من 400 جنوح منذ أسبوع.
وأوضح «بيلاجيس»، أمس (الجمعة)، أن «نحو 420 من الحوتيات الصغيرة» جنحت على ساحل المحيط الأطلسي بين 10 و17 مارس (آذار) الحالي، بينها 120 في 11 و12 مارس وحدهما. ووصف «المرصد» هذا الرقم بأنه «غير مسبوق». ولاحظ «المرصد» الذي يتولى منذ 1970 إحصاء حالات جنوح الحوتيات على ساحل المحيط الأطلسي «تنوعاً كبيراً في حال الجيف»، ويظهر منها أن بعض الدلافين المنجرفة إلى الساحل نفقت قبل بضعة أيام فحسب، في حين يعود نفوق أخرى إلى أسابيع عدة طبقاً لتقرير «وكالة الصحافة الفرنسية».
وأفادت المنظمة بأن «الفحوص التي أُجريت على عدد قليل من الجيف أظهرت في الغالب آثار معدات صيد».
وذكر «بيلاجيس» أن موجة أولى «شديدة» سُجلت في بداية السنة، حين تجاوز عدد الحوتيات الجانحة 360، من منتصف ديسمبر (كانون الأول) 2022 إلى نهاية يناير (كانون الثاني) 2023.
وبلغ معدل حالات الجنوح في فصل الشتاء 850، ما بين 2017 و2020.

Report: Iranian Revolutionary Guards Experts Visit Bab al-Mandeb to Install Radars

Experts from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) visited the Bab al-Mandeb region to study the installation of radars nearby and oversee tunnel excavation works in the mountainous hills overlooking it, two Houthi military sources told AFP on Saturday.

The sources stated that the Iranian experts working with the Houthis visited the Bab al-Mandeb region, the port and airport of Yemen’s Mokha, and the Jabal Al-Nar camp east of Mokha.

They added that the experts oversaw tunnel excavation works in the mountainous hills overlooking Mokha and Bab al-Mandeb, and discussed the process of installing radars near Mokha and inside Zuqar Island in the southern Red Sea.

The sources said that the experts came from Hodeidah, which held by the Houthis, and carried out separate visits between Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, Yemeni government sources told AFP on Saturday that battles had intensified between the Iran-backed Houthis and government forces around the Kahboub mountain region overlooking the Bab al-Mandeb area.

The conflict in Yemen has been experiencing a sharp escalation since July, against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East between Iran and the United States.

The United Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) condemned on Saturday the terrorist Houthi militia's attacks on Saudi Arabia, its targeting of civilian objects, and their dangerous impact on regional security and stability.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and GCC Secretary-General Jasem AlBudaiwi exchanged views on the latest regional developments during their meeting on Saturday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The two sides discussed several regional issues and the efforts exerted toward them. Guterres praised the development, progress, and prosperity achieved by the Gulf states, as well as their regional and international efforts to promote security and stability.

Guterres and AlBudaiwi reviewed issues of mutual interest, as well as cooperation relations between the GCC and the UN, and ways to boost and consolidate them to serve shared interests.

The UN Security Council had warned of the consequences of the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and the threats posed to international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, considering that the militia's military actions in Yemen, alongside its targeting of Saudi territory and commercial shipping, threaten to expand the regional conflict, undermine maritime security and international trade, and hinder regional and international efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen.

In a statement on Friday night, the Council members strongly condemned in the strongest terms the ongoing attacks launched by the Houthis on Saudi Arabia, including those that caused damage to civilians and energy infrastructure, and resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children.

The Council stressed the importance of maintaining the safety of commercial vessels and their crews, the necessity of adhering to international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and respecting navigational rights and freedoms, at a time when military developments in Yemen raise concerns regarding the security of sea lanes and the movement of international trade.

The Council expressed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia in confronting attacks that affect civilians and civilian objects on its territory, affirming its inherent right to self-defense in accordance with international law.

وأوضح المنتخب السعودي، في بيان رسمي، أن قرار استبعاد الجوير جاء لأسباب انضباطية، دون الكشف عن مزيد من التفاصيل المتعلقة بطبيعة المخالفة التي أدت إلى اتخاذ القرار.

ويأتي استبعاد الجوير في إطار استعدادات المنتخب السعودي لخوض منافسات البطولة الخليجية، التي تستضيفها مدينة جدة، وسط تطلعات لتقديم مشاركة مميزة والمنافسة على اللقب.

ولم يتضمن البيان الصادر عن المنتخب السعودي أي إشارة إلى استدعاء لاعب بديل لتعويض غياب الجوير عن المعسكر، مع الإشارة إلى أن اللاعب البديل سيتم الإعلان عنه لاحقاً.
