Türkiye, Israel Trade Heated Accusations as Tensions Mount

Tensions between Ankara and Tel Aviv continue to mount with Israel accusing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of “antisemitism.”

Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry said the “lies and slanders” targeting Erdogan reflected the “cowardly and corrupt mentality” of Israeli government officials, foremost among them Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Responding to an Israeli Foreign Ministry statement describing Erdogan as one of the “fiercest antisemites”, the ministry said Netanyahu and his “criminal gang” were beginning to lose their political and legal immunity after bringing “historic shame” upon the Israeli people by “committing genocide” in Gaza.

It also accused them of being chiefly responsible for regional and global instability by displaying “expansionism unprecedented in the modern history of the Middle East.”

Accusations

The Turkish Foreign Ministry statement, posted on X, said efforts by Israeli institutions “operating in a manner resembling the propaganda machine of Nazi Germany’s propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels” were no longer effective, stressing that the “international community no longer believed the Netanyahu government’s lies.”

It added that Türkiye, under Erdogan’s leadership, had taken a “sincere and resolute stand against crimes committed during Netanyahu’s tenure and would continue to defend and speak out for the truth”.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry accused Erdogan of antisemitism, saying: “Every few days, Erdogan seeks to escalate his wild incitement against the Jewish state in order to divert attention from his actions against his own people and the region.”

“He has destroyed Turkish democracy, imprisoned his political opponents, hosted and supported Hamas, and invaded neighboring countries. Like the most virulent antisemites in history, he tries to spread baseless blood libels to divert attention from his disgraceful actions,” it said.

Support for Gaza

In response, Turkish Presidency Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran said Erdogan would continue to defend the Palestinian people’s just cause, describing the Israeli statement as “an example of a mentality that resorts to slander and propaganda instead of confronting the facts.”

“As they always do, they are trying to hide behind the concept of ‘antisemitism’ to cover up their aggression, genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity,” Duran said.

He added that Türkiye categorically opposed occupation, oppression, massacres and policies that disregard international law, and that Erdogan would continue to defend the Palestinian cause, be the voice of the oppressed in Gaza and work to support regional stability.

In a Sunday message marking the 104th anniversary of Victory Day on August 30, without naming Israel or its government, Erdogan said: “Despite the provocations of those who feed on instability, Türkiye, as a state and a nation, will continue to defend truth, justice, peace and stability.”

He added that Türkiye, which strives to prevent injustice regardless of its source and stand with the oppressed regardless of their identity, does not hesitate to pay the price when necessary.

Schoolchildren are dispensing with analytical thinking as they increasingly lean on artificial intelligence, a fast-changing technology that many teenagers struggle to understand, a new survey shows, according to dpa.

The research, published in August by US-based media advice organization Common Sense Media, showed that pupils are foregoing “critical thinking” as the use of chatbots in the classroom expands.

Around 40% of those asked said they suspected that using AI is not helping them learn, agreeing that relying on chatbots means they generate fewer ideas of their own.

Around six in ten of the approximately 1,000 participants who use AI do so to get an answer to their schoolwork, with a quarter not bothering to rephrase the response and 31% changing the wording to make the response sound like their own.

In cases where schools block AI platforms, six in ten pupils turned to personal devices to access chatbots for help with assignments.

However, almost three-quarters of those surveyed said they have not been instructed or advised how to use AI “safely.”

“Students understand that AI threatens learning, but the reality is that it is too tempting and convenient for them to look the other way,” said Common Sense Media chief executive Jim Steyer, who called on adults to provide children with skills to use the technology “responsibly.”

Previous research has suggested that adults - including those in elite professions - are as susceptible as teenagers to letting AI do their thinking for them.

In 2025, Microsoft found multiple signs of reduced cognitive effort and less critical thinking in a survey of over 300 knowledge workers.

The latest findings were published as another poll showed that, for the first time, a majority of young adults are “more concerned than excited" about AI, with only 10% of under-30’s feeling “excited.”

Published by the Pew Research Center, the survey found 52% of all age groups deeming themselves as concerned that AI could lead to mass unemployment.

Variety'nin özel haberine göre Anne Hathaway, Yıldırım Günleri'nin (Days of Thunder) devam filminde Tom Cruise'la başrolü paylaşacak.

Yoğun bir yıl geçiren Hathaway; Mother Mary, Şeytan Marka Giyer 2 (The Devil Wears Prada 2), Odyssey (The Odyssey) ve Oak Caddesi'nin Sonu (The End of Oak Street) olmak üzere 4 farklı filmle sinemalarda boy gösterdi.

Bebek bekleyen Hathaway, yılı 2 Ekim'de vizyona girecek Colleen Hoover uyarlaması Verity: Gerçeğin Diğer Kıyısı'yla (Verity) kapatacak.

Adam Driver'la başrolü paylaştığı askeri drama Alone at Dawn'un çekimlerini henüz tamamlayan oyuncu, kariyerinde çıkış yapmasını sağlayan Disney klasiği Acemi Prenses'in (The Princess Diaries) üçüncü halkası üzerinde çalışmaya devam ediyor.
