بومبيو: محمد بن سلمان شخصية تاريخية على المسرح العالمي

استأثرت المذكرات التي أصدرها وزير الخارجية الأميركي السابق، مايك بومبيو، الثلاثاء، بكثير من الاهتمام على المستويين الأميركي والعالمي، في ضوء ما تضمنته من أسرار.
ودافع بومبيو في مذكراته «لا تعطِ أي بوصة - القتال من أجل أميركا التي أحب»، عن السعودية بشدة، مشيراً إلى أنَّ علاقته الدبلوماسية مع المملكة كانت تغيظ وسائل الإعلام الأميركية.
وشدَّد وزير الخارجية الأميركي السابق على أنَّ ولي العهد السعودي الأمير محمد بن سلمان رجل إصلاحي «سيثبت أنَّه أحد أهم قادة عصره، وشخصية تاريخية بحق على المسرح العالمي».
وحول تكليف الرئيس السابق دونالد ترمب له الذهاب إلى السعودية في أكتوبر (تشرين الأول) 2018، قال إنَّه «بطريقة ما، أعتقد أنَّ الرئيس (ترمب) شعر بالحسد لأنَّني كنت الشخصَ الذي (أغاظ) (واشنطن بوست) و(نيويورك تايمز) وجبناء آخرين لا يملكون أي صلة مع الواقع».
وتضمَّنت المذكرات معلومات مثيرةً على غرار المساعدة التي قدمتها «وكالة الاستخبارات المركزية» (سي آي إيه) لإنقاذ عملاء جهاز المخابرات الإسرائيلي (الموساد) خلال عملية استيلائهم على وثائق البرنامج النووي الإيراني، عام 2018، وكذلك تجنيب العالم حرباً نووية بين الهند وباكستان.

Thomas Muller is not ready to retire.

The Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday that the club has signed the German soccer great to a contract extension through Major League Soccer’s 2027 “sprint season.”

The sprint season is set to run from February through May 2027 before the league switches to the international summer-to-spring calendar in July 2027.

“So far it’s a hell of a ride. It’s really fun to be with this team, to be with these people and to be with the club,” Muller said in a video released by the Whitecaps. “And my body is still good.

“I just feel that it’s so much fun to be out on the pitch, week in and week out. Every match day is a good day for me. And we want to achieve our goals.”

Reaching the extension required the 37-year-old Muller to evaluate how his body was feeling and whether he could physically handle another season, Whitecaps CEO and sporting director Axel Schuster said.

“He’s smart enough to say, ‘I don’t want to be on the pitch one day, and people say, ‘You should have stopped,’'" Schuster said. “He doesn’t need that. He had his massive career. He could have retired before he came to Vancouver, and he can retire at any given end of a season, and everyone will be happy. And he doesn’t want to play then over that time.”

Muller signed with Vancouver in August 2025 following 17 seasons with Bayern Munich, where he scored 250 goals across all competitions.

The midfielder has continued to be a dominant force in MLS, tallying 16 goals and 11 assists over 29 regular-season games.

He has made 45 appearances across all competitions for the Whitecaps, contributing 19 goals and 12 assists in the process, and was named an MLS All-Star this summer.

Before joining the Whitecaps, Muller led Bayern to 13 league championships and 33 total titles.

He also won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, scoring five goals in the tournament, and took home the Golden Boot from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, finishing with five goals and three assists.

Muller said he isn’t done yet.

“I really appreciate to be here, hunting titles with this team, especially the MLS Cup,” he said. “And the journey continues. But that doesn’t mean that we kind of take it easy this year. But we have another bullet.”

With Muller in its ranks, the club won the MLS Western Conference title last season and made it to its first MLS Cup final, falling 3-1 to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.

Vancouver has hovered around the top of the league standings this season, and currently holds first place in the Western Conference with a 15-6-5 record.

The Trump administration has withdrawn the United States from a top European anti-corruption watchdog as it forges ahead with plans to disengage from international and multilateral organizations that it accuses of exceeding their mandates, being inefficient or not adapting to US policies.

The Council of Europe said Tuesday that the US formally notified it a day earlier that it would leave the Group of States against Corruption, or GRECO. Only two other countries have left GRECO before — Russia and Belarus.

The State Department confirmed the move, saying that US participation, which requires an annual monetary contribution, “does not provide tangible benefits to US national security.”

“The era of writing blank checks to international bureaucracies is over,” it said. “The department is instead prioritizing higher-impact tools to combat corruption, such as visa restrictions, sanctions, and targeted foreign assistance to strengthen foreign criminal investigations into corruption directly threatening US security and prosperity.”

The Strasbourg-based Council of Europe said the US had been “a valuable contributor” to GRECO "and to the exchange of experience and good practice in preventing and combating corruption.”

“GRECO remains open to resuming cooperation with the United States in the future in support of shared efforts to prevent corruption, strengthen integrity and uphold the rule of law,” it said in a statement.

The decision was announced a week after the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said the US had declined to invite its members to observe November’s congressional midterm elections, a sharp break from past practice.

The US has already withdrawn from a number of European-based UN and multilateral agencies, including the World Health Organization and the UN Human Rights Council, and is weighing further such steps.

The US withdrew in January from another Council of Europe panel — the Venice Commission, which is an advisory body on constitutional law.

GRECO was created in 1999 by the Council of Europe to monitor compliance with the organization’s anti-corruption standards. Membership is not limited to European Union members, and the United States joined a year after its founding.

ABD Senatosundaki Cumhuriyetçiler, dün Başkan Donald Trump yönetimini işgal altındaki Batı Şeria'da artan şiddet ve aralarında ABD vatandaşlarının da bulunduğu kişilerin öldürülmesi hakkında Kongre'ye rapor sunmaya zorlamayı amaçlayan girişimi engelledi.

Oylama, ABD'deki Demokratlar ile İsrail Başbakanı Binyamin Netanyahu hükümeti arasında İsrail'in Filistinlilere yönelik tutumu konusundaki anlaşmazlığın ve Cumhuriyetçilerin Netanyahu liderliğindeki koalisyona verdiği güçlü desteğin sürdüğünü gösteren son gelişme oldu.

Karara 47 senatör destek verirken, 51 senatör karşı çıktı. Kentucky Senatörü Rand Paul dışında bütün Cumhuriyetçiler “hayır” oyu kullandı. Bütün Demokratlar ise Pennsylvania Senatörü John Fetterman dışında kararı destekledi.

Karar kabul edilseydi, Dışişleri Bakanlığı'nın Batı Şeria'da yerleşimciler veya İsrail güvenlik güçleri tarafından öldürülen ABD vatandaşları hakkında Kongre'ye rapor sunması ve bölgedeki insan hakları durumunu değerlendirmesi gerekecekti.

Batı Şeria'da Yahudi yerleşimcilerin Filistinlilere yönelik şiddet olayları bu yıl keskin biçimde arttı.

Karar, II. Dünya Savaşı'ndan bu yana ABD'nin toplamda en fazla dış yardım sağladığı ülke olan İsrail'e yönelik yardımların kesilmesini öngörmüyordu. Ancak yönetimin raporu sunmaması, yardımlara kısıtlama getirilmesinin önünü açabilecekti.

Maryland Senatörü Demokrat Chris Van Hollen, söz konusu girişimin başlıca destekçisiydi. Van Hollen, Batı Şeria'daki insan hakları durumunun, 2022'den bu yana 9 ABD vatandaşının öldürülmesi de dahil olmak üzere, “çoktan incelenmesi gereken” bir konu olduğunu belirtti.

Van Hollen yaptığı açıklamada, İsrail'e atıfla, “ABD vergi mükelleflerinin parasını alanların yasalarımıza ve değerlerimize uygun hareket etmesini sağlamak bizim sorumluluğumuzdur” ifadelerini kullandı.

Cumhuriyetçiler ise Demokratları, İsrail'in tehdit altında olduğu bir dönemde siyasi çıkar elde etmeye çalışmakla suçladı. Bu açıklamalar, ABD ve İsrail güçlerinin İran'la devam eden çatışmanın başlamasına yol açan hava saldırılarını düzenlemesinin üzerinden yedi ay geçmesinin ardından geldi.

Montana Senatörü Cumhuriyetçi Steve Daines, “İran destekli terör belasına karşı koyarken, müttefikimiz İsrail'in yanında durabilmemiz için meslektaşlarımı bu karara hayır oyu vermeye çağırıyorum” dedi.

Seçimler yaklaşıyor

Oylama, 3 Kasım'da yapılması planlanan ABD ara seçimlerinden birkaç hafta önce gerçekleşti. Şarku’l Avsat’ın edindiği bilgiye göre anketler, seçimlerin Cumhuriyetçilerin Kongre'deki çoğunluğunu kaybetmesiyle sonuçlanabileceğine işaret ediyor. Bu da yeni Kongre döneminde ABD'nin İsrail politikasında olası bir değişimin önünü açabilir.

Anketlere göre İran'la savaş, çatışmanın yol açtığı enerji fiyatlarındaki artış nedeniyle hayal kırıklığı yaşayan Amerikalılar arasında popüler değil.

Uzun süredir ABD'deki Cumhuriyetçilere yakın duran Netanyahu da 27 Ekim'de İsrail'de yapılacak seçimlerle karşı karşıya. Anketler, sağ koalisyonunun seçimleri kaybedebileceğine işaret ediyor.

İsrail, Batı Şeria'yı 1967'den bu yana kontrol ediyor. Birleşmiş Milletler ve ülkelerin çoğu, bölgedeki yerleşimleri askeri işgale ilişkin uluslararası hukuk kapsamında yasa dışı kabul ediyor. İsrail ise bu görüşü reddediyor ve söz konusu toprakların işgal altında değil, ihtilaflı olduğunu savunuyor.

Bazı Demokratlar ve az sayıda Cumhuriyetçi, İsrail'in Gazze'deki savaşı yürütme biçimi nedeniyle İsrail'e yönelik askeri yardımlara kısıtlama getirilmesi çağrısında bulundu. Savaş, on binlerce Filistinlinin ölümüne ve Gazze Şeridi'nin geniş kesimlerinin harabeye dönüşmesine yol açtı.
