Ramallah - Asharq Al-Awsat
Palestinian and foreign activists stormed on Saturday an Israeli settlement outpost in the northern Jordan Valley in the West Bank.

They removed the Israeli flag and raised a Palestinian one before the Israeli army intervened, detaining three activists.

Settlers had set up the outpost two years ago in Bardala village, located in the Jordan Valley, and called it “Salit.”

“We broke into the outpost, and we had a chance to remove the Israeli flag and raise the Palestinian flag,” Abdullah Abu Rahma, an anti-settlement activist, told AFP.

“So far, the Israeli army is holding three of the activists who participated with us,” Abu Rahma noted.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said the army detained seven journalists, who were present at the scene.

Foreign activists, including Israelis, participate with Palestinian activists in numerous activities against Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories.

The Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) denounced Israeli forces for attacking press crews and detaining them while covering a peaceful march.

In a press statement, it called on relevant international and human rights groups to carry out their duty to protect Palestinian journalists and put an end to these Israeli violations.

It vowed to continue to carry its national and professional duty.
