Egypt Foils Attempt to Smuggle Egyptian Antiquities Into Turkey

Egyptian security services thwarted an attempt to smuggle 26 artifacts through Hurghada International Airport to Turkey.

In a statement published Sunday on its official Facebook page, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior said: "As part of the efforts of the security services to continue to tighten security on exits and control all the forms of crime, especially smuggling, the Hurghada Airport Police Department was able to arrest a foreign national travelling to Turkey, with 26 possible antiquities hidden in his luggage."

The pieces include a 24-cm-long Oscapet, made of burnt clay and wrapped in linen with hieroglyphic inscriptions, three pieces of pharaonic coffins inscribed with hieroglyphic inscriptions, a blue and green phoenix necklace, three Pharaonic pharaonic amulets, a small scarab Made of ivory, medium-sized scarab with writings in Hierotica, five coins dating back to the Greco-Roman era, an incised lamp with the face of the Hathor god, dating back to the Pharaonic era, and nine pieces of colored pottery with ambiguous drawings.

Hence, the archaeological unit at the airport took the necessary legal procedures.
