Saudi Arabia registered on Saturday 48 new cases of the new coronavirus, bringing the total of those infected in the country to 392.

Meanwhile, Saudi Health Ministry spokesman Mohammed Abdelali said a total of 16 people have recovered from COVID-19.

Earlier, the health ministry warned that some of the new registered cases were linked to people attending social occasions.

Eleven of patients reported on Friday had arrived from Morocco, India, Jordan, the Philippines, Britain, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. They were moved directly from the airport to quarantine, which has proven effective against the spread of the virus in the country.

The health ministry urged people to follow guidelines and preventative measures to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
