Trump Describes Democratic Leaders as ‘Iran's Allies’
US President Donald Trump has accused his Democratic opponents of being allies with Iran. On Monday, he retweeted a photoshopped image of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer standing in front of an Iranian flag.
Trump's latest attack on Schumer and Pelosi follows sharp criticism from Democrats against the killing of the leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, General Qassem Soleimani, in Baghdad this month.
“The Democrats and the Fake News are trying to make terrorist Soleimani into a wonderful guy, only because I did what should have been done for 20 years,” Trump tweeted.
“Anything I do, whether it’s the economy, military, or anything else, will be scorned by the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats,” he also tweeted.
The photoshopped image showed Pelosi wearing hijab and Schumer with a turban on his head. “Democrats 2020,” the text on the bottom of the image read.
The killing of Soleimani raised fears of war erupting in the region. Trump stressed that it was necessary to kill Soleimani to prevent imminent attacks on US embassies in the region.
In his response to criticism that accused him of recklessness by killing Soleimani, the commander of the "Quds Force" in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Trump again insisted that the target was an imminent threat.
He made it clear that even if the imminent threat he posed did not warrant his killing, Soleimani’s history justified the move.
"The Fake News Media and their Democrat Partners are working hard to determine whether or not the future attack by terrorist Soleimani was 'imminent' or not, & was my team in agreement," Trump tweeted.
"The answer to both is a strong YES., but it doesn't really matter because of his horrible past!"
