German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer called on Wednesday for extending her country’s participation in the anti-ISIS coalition.

Speaking from the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Erbil, she said that the continued participation favors Iraq’s long-term stability and falls within Berlin’s interests as well.

The ruling coalition in Germany is undecided on whether to extend the mandate of its forces in the alliance. The mandate ends on October 31.

Kramp-Karrenbauer had arrived in Kurdistan on Wednesday after paying a visit to Baghdad where she met Iraqi government officials.

She stressed that her country still values its participation in the US-led anti-ISIS international coalition.

The German air force provides refueling support and carries out reconnaissance missions using four Tornado fighter jets from a base in Jordan as part of the coalition fighting the ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
