The Saudi-led Arab coalition stressed on Monday that it will continue its operations to restore stability in Yemen, reinstate the legitimate authorities and end the coup by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that the recent escalation in the interim capital, Aden, by the Southern Transitional Council was “unfortunate” given the losses of life during the clashes.

These developments harmed the interests of the Yemeni people, he told a press conference in Riyadh.

He stressed that the coalition worked with all political and social factions and the legitimate government in order to restore calm and return to dialogue and reason.

“We reject the tampering with the interests of the people during this critical time in Aden,” Maliki said. He called for joint efforts by all parties “to achieve the aspirations of the people and liberate remaining regions from coup forces.”

He hailed the STC and legitimate government for agreeing to dialogue as proposed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The two countries had formed a joint committee to ensure that all STC forces pull out of Aden.

Maliki confirmed that the forces had withdrawn from Aden hospital, the central bank and government general secretariat.

The coalition will continue to work with all social and political factions in Aden to restore calm, he vowed.
