The legitimate Yemeni government announced that the World Bank has dedicated additional support to the war-torn country as part of its support for its institutions and projects.

The additional support reached $400 million, bringing to more than $1.7 billion the funds it has dedicated to the country.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Najeeb Al-Aweg said that a recent visit by World Bank officials to the temporary capital Aden was “very fruitful” and its results will soon materialize on the ground.

He told Asharq Al-Awsat that Yemeni officials discussed with the World Bank support for professional institutions. The World Bank has focused its efforts on the health, agriculture and nutrition sectors and response to the Cholera outbreak.

Discussions also centered on a solar energy project, funded by the World Bank, for the People’s Hospital in Aden.

“The relationship between the government and World Bank is good and we have constant coordination,” said Aweg.

The World Bank is one of the government’s main partners in development. The government is relying on its support to back its efforts for Yemen’s economic recovery and comprehensive development.
