Rabat - Asharq Al-Awsat
The head of the National Press Council in Morocco, Younes M’Jahed, has been elected president of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

IFJ delegates convening in Tunis for their World Congress elected M’Jahed with 200 votes to 112 to his rival Martin O'Hanlon from CWA, Canada.

This is the first time that a journalist from the African continent and the Arab world wins the IFJ presidency, which has seen figures from Europe and Australia.

IFJ delegates elected Peruvian Zuliana Lainez as Senior Vice president, Indian Sabina Inderjit and Russian Timur Shafir as Vice Presidents and British Jim Boumelha as Honorary Treasurer.
