Swede Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Stealing 2 Royal Crowns

A Swedish man was sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of century from a Swedish thstealing two royal crowns and an orb dating back to the 17cathedral last year. Martin Cannermo, 26, had denied any wrongdoing; however, the Attunda District Court said the verdict was unanimous.

Among the items stolen on July 31, 2018, were a gold crown used at the funerals, an orb made especially for King Charles IX (who was born in 1550 and died in 1611), along with a gold jeweled crown made for Queen Kristina, Charles' second wife.

Witnesses said they saw two men dashing away on bicycles from the Strangnas Cathedral, west of Stockholm, and then fled by motorboat via the Mälaren Lake.

Cannermo has been detained under trial since February when another man, Nicklas in complicityfor , was sentenced to four years and six months in prison Backstromanother robbery.

The court said Cannermo received a lower prison sentence because he had been instrumental in helping to recover the items, but he was recently convicted in another theft.

According to the Eskilstuna-Kuriren newspaper, the man told the Attunda District Court that he received the stolen jewels from an unknown person, but he refused to name him. He also said he put the jewels in a garbage container, which he placed on a car in Åkersberga in northern Stockholm. The stolen items were finally found by a security guard.
