Israeli leaders in security bodies said, during internal meetings, that there was a high risk of a new flare-up between Israel and Hamas and other organizations in Gaza Strip, as the prospect of reaching a truce remain low.

They affirmed that even if the efforts of Egypt and Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov succeeded and an agreement was reached on a series of procedures towards a truce, the marches towards the separation barrier on the Gaza border would continue.

The Israeli security leadership attributed this pessimism to the depressing situation in Gaza where the economic condition has been collapsing. A spokesman criticized Hamas, saying that the people were not getting the minimal living conditions and they would burst in the face of the failing policy of Hamas government.

Hamas, in its turn, responds traditionally with directing the pressure towards Israel, added the spokesman.

A senior security Israeli official said to Walla Website that the Egypt-orchestrated talks have been witnessing progress – that’s why Hamas is deploying forces along the border and reducing participants at the Marches of Return.

But this situation is not guaranteed because Hamas doesn’t have the courage to meet the Israeli demands especially in the case of the captive, added the senior official.
