Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Doha on Monday for a three-day official visit to discuss Palestinian-Qatari relations.

Palestinian sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that Abbas was seeking to highlight the importance of Arab support at this time, “but he also wants to discuss the transfer of national funds to the Gaza Strip that is outside the powers of the Palestinian Authority.”

“The most important issue will be the deal of the century as the president wants clearer views” on the matter, the sources added.

Qatar announced two weeks ago its decision to send money to the West Bank and Gaza Strip. An amount of $480 million has been allocated in grants and loans to the Palestinian Authority.

The Qatari decision came after Abbas sent a high-level Palestinian delegation headed by member of Fatah Movement Central Committee, Minister Hussein al-Sheikh, to brief Qatari officials on the difficult situation in the Palestinian territories.

The amount comprises $300 million for the Authority, including $50 million in form of grants and $250 million for government treasury payments in installments of $21 million per month, in addition to $180 million for humanitarian and electricity assistance for the Gaza Strip.
