Saudi Arabia reiterated on Tuesday its support for the Sudanese people and the newly formed transitional military council, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired a cabinet session in Riyadh that underlined its backing to the measures that the council will take for the interest of the people.

The ministers highlighted the Kingdom’s aid package to Sudan, which it announced on Sunday. The package includes oil derivatives, wheat and medicine.

Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of King Salman, stressed its keenness on easing the suffering of the Sudanese people, saying that it stands by them in overcoming all challenges.

King Salman briefed the ministers on the meeting he held on Sunday with Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo. He also briefed them on the messages he received last week from Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.

The cabinet then reviewed a number of Arab, regional and international issues and developments.

It welcomed the legitimate Yemeni parliament for holding its first session in years last week.

It said that the meeting reflected the Yemeni people’s determination to regain their state and protect their unity and national principles against the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

The parliament met for the first time since 2014 on Friday in an extraordinary session in the eastern city of Seiyun in Hadramaut.

President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi chaired the meeting that saw the election of Sultan al-Borkani as speaker.

Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed al-Jaber congratulated Yemeni officials for holding the meeting, saying it reflected the people’s determination to restore their state and put an end to the Houthi agenda.
