The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of the harm facing children exposed to an enormous amount of advertising while browsing the web, chatting, following celebrities, and using social media.

The organization stressed that governments need better data on children's Internet use to control online advertising and better protect the little ones, the European branch of the organization said.

To prevent children and young people from developing heart disease, cancer and obesity, it is necessary to protect them from advertisements promoting unhealthy products, including fast food with high sugar, salt and fat, the WHO said.

There are growing signs that children and young people are being exposed to unhealthy products influence through online ads, it added.

Non-communicable diseases accounted for 86 percent of death causes in the European region including 53 countries, among them are the European Union, Russia, Turkey, Israel, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
