Berlin, London - Asharq Al-Awsat
Germany's Deutsche Bahn plans to launch a new system to track the punctuality of long-distance trains.

According to the Bild am Sonntag newspaper, starting from Monday, the company will observe whether passengers of Intercity and Intercity Express trains arrive to their destinations delayed by more or less than 15 minutes, reported the German news agency.

The new tracking system will monitor trains with canceled trips, as well as whether the passenger has been able to take another train, switch to another transport means, or whether an alternative train has been operated if the trip is canceled.

Deutsche Bahn declined to comment on the report.

The company usually considers that a train has arrived on time, if the delay does not exceed six minutes.

In January, Deutsche Bahn announced that the annual average of punctual trains hit 74.9% in 2018, the worst since 2015.

The highest rate for the past 10 years has been achieved in 2009, with 81.2%, while the lowest was in 2010 with 72.4%.

President of the Conference of the Ministers of Transport called on Deutsche Bahn to improve planning and logistics, provide more trains and workers, along with better information to passengers.
