Israeli gunfire killed a Palestinian teenager during a protest along the Gaza-Israel border fence, Palestinian sources said Friday.

The Health Ministry said 15-year-old Youssef al-Dayya died at a hospital shortly after he was hit with a gunshot in the chest.

Thirty people were wounded by gunfire or suffocated from tear gas inhalation during clashes on the outskirts of the eastern Gaza Strip.

The clashes marked the 48th week of the Marches of Return that were launched on March 30 against a siege imposed by Israel against since 2007. Some 260 Palestinians were killed and more than 26,000 wounded in the protests.

In the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, dozens were wounded and suffered from tear gas inhalation during clashes with the Israeli forces in several areas.

Also on Friday, Palestinians managed to break the Israeli siege imposed on the Bab al-Rahma (Gate of Mercy) area of the al-Aqsa Mosque. The area had been sealed off by Israeli forces since 2003.

The residents of Jerusalem after years of perseverance and a week-long protest succeeded in breaking through Israeli forces.

Religious authorities, members of the Awqaf council and hundreds of Palestinians descended on the area carrying Palestinian flags and chanting slogans of victory. Hundreds of worshipers performed Friday prayers at the square.
