Dubai International Airport briefly halted flights on Friday morning over an alleged drone sighting, an airport spokesperson said.

The airport said it halted flights from 10:13 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. over "suspected drone activity."

But flights were later resumed, it said.

The statement said that the airport has "worked closely with the appropriate authorities to ensure that the safety" of the facility's "operations is maintained at all times and to minimize any inconvenience to our customers."

Drone owners are required to register with the United Arab Emirates' General Civil Aviation Authority. Authorities also ban hobbyists from putting cameras or lasers on their drones and flying in certain areas.

There are severe penalties in the UAE for unauthorized drone activity, the Authority’s Director-General Saif Mohammed al-Suwaidi said in an interview with Al-Arabiya TV.
