Saudi Arabia’s state security agency announced Wednesday that it had foiled a terrorist plot in the al-Qatif region, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

A spokesman for the agency said that it had uncovered an imminent criminal plot aimed at targeting the Kingdom’s security and social peace and the development projects in Qatif.

The terrorists were plotting their attack from a house in the town of al-Jash in Qatif.

The security forces consequently carried out a preemptive raid on Monday morning against the residence, where seven terrorist fugitives were holed up.

They surrounded the house and called on them to turn themselves over to the authorities.

The fugitives instead opened fire at the security forces, who retaliated in kind.

Six terrorists were killed in the shootout.

The seventh, identified as Adel Jaafar Tahifa, was wounded and transferred to hospital for treatment where he is in stable condition.

Five members of the security forces incurred minor injuries in the shootout.

Several weapons, explosives, rounds of ammunition and mobile phones were seized at the terrorists’ hideout.

The state security spokesman stressed that the agency will continue to pursue and crackdown on criminal elements that have agreed to become pawns to implement foreign agendas against the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia, he said, will remain immune to such plots thanks to its wise leadership.

He also renewed calls on fugitives to turn themselves over to the authorities.
