Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz presided on Sunday over the opening ceremony of the Historical Al-Turaif District Development Project, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

The project aims at developing the historical district by reconstructing and turning it into an international, cultural and touristic center, according to its historical, cultural and environmental characteristics.

The ultimate goal is to have the district listed as a world heritage city.

Governor of the Riyadh Region Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz expressed on the occasion his gratitude to King Salman for patronizing the opening ceremony, which coincides with the monarch’s fourth anniversary of assumption of power.

The event was attended by a number of Gulf Cooperation Council leaders and delegates that were in Saudi Arabia to take part in the council’s 39th annual summit.
