The leaders of Nidaa Tounes and Tunisia’s left-wing have issued statements in an endeavor to weaken Ennahda movement, around a year ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Since Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi announced the end of the political coalition between the party, which he formed in 2012, and Ennahda, the latter began facing a series of accusations, mainly of forming a shadow security agency that was responsible for the two political assassinations that have taken place in Tunisia in 2013.

Also, some left-wing parties accused Ennahda of concealing secrets about the assassination of Chokri Belaid and Mohammad Brahmi.

Nidaa Tounes Secretary-general Slim Riahi accused this week Prime Minister Youssef Chahed of an attempted coup against Essebsi, a charge mainly directed at leaders of Ennahda, which has provided full support to the PM’s government.

Reda al-Radawi, a lawyer and member of the defense committee of Belaid and Brahmi, accused Ennahda of standing behind a multitude of political assassination plots in 2013.

In response to these charges, the movement expressed shock from what has been published on the official page of the Presidency of the Republic regarding accusations launched by some political parties for the purpose of offending another.

Ennahda warned against the danger of involving the presidency in twisted means with the aim of damaging the judiciary’s independence and involve it in the political bickering.

It stressed keenness to maintain partnership and accord with various political and social factions in the country, mainly the President of the Republic.
