Iran said on Friday it had no concerns over the reimposition of new US sanctions on the country's vital oil and financial sectors.

"America will not be able to carry out any measure against our great and brave nation ... We have the knowledge and the capability to manage the country's economic affairs," Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said.

"The possibility of America being able to achieve its economic goals through these sanctions is very remote and there is certainly no possibility that it will attain its political goals through such sanctions," Reuters quoted Qasemi as saying.

The US government has agreed to let eight countries, including South Korea, Japan and India, to keep buying Iranian oil after it reimposes sanctions on Tehran.

"The new US sanctions will mostly have psychological effects," said Qasemi.

Also Friday, Governor of Central Bank of Iran Abdolnaser Hemmati said that the US has failed in its efforts to impose sweeping sanctions on Iran’s oil exports.

“We have managed to build up our foreign exchange reserves over the past months,” he was quoted as saying by Iran's semi-official news agency ISNA.
