All men, without exception, are banned from entering a new hookah cafe in the German capital Berlin. Even its owner Mohammed Armih does not enter the shop during working hours.

The Lady Hookah cafe, located in the popular suburb of Kreuzberg, with its large Arab and Turkish population, and streets filled with shisha smoke, aims to provide an area where women can sit and drink hookah without harassment.

The owner of the coffee shop says he was inspired by his three sisters.

“They used to complain from strange men who stare at them and they looked for a place where they feel comfortable," the German news agency reported.

The owner’s sisters are not the only ones complaining, as the 60 seats in the cafe are always full during the weekend.

“Many women book a place a week ahead,” said Chanay, who works at the cafe.

The idea of Lady Hookah does not only lure Muslim women, who can remove their hijab as soon as they reach the cafe.

“Women of many nationalities visit it, including Germans and Britons," added Armih.

According to the German Association of Hotels and Restaurants, the women-only trend is growing.

“More and more small businesses are focusing on specific groups of customers, or on certain styles, along with developing offers targeting people with similar mentalities or different ages," said a spokeswoman for the association.
