Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi kicked off Thursday from Bahrain a three-legged Asian tour that would take him to China and Uzbekistan.

On his first stop in Bahrain, Sisi held talks with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. They reviewed ways to boost the fraternal bilateral relations at various levels and highlighted their rejection of foreign interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

The Bahraini King expressed delight in the Egyptian President’s visit that reflects the depth of the Bahraini-Egyptian relations, saying it is a good opportunity to promote coordination, consultation and cooperation in various fields.

For his part, Sisi called for enhancing Bahraini-Egyptian relations.

Following talks between the two leaders, Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa said the meeting focused on efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, as well as addressing regional attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Arab countries, same as in Syria where efforts are needed to promote the nation state and drive out Iran-backed terrorist groups, including “Hezbollah” fighters.

He said the meeting between the Bahraini and Egyptian leaders are part of the ongoing consultations between the two countries, adding the Egyptian President’s visit was of strategic importance in strengthening unity against attempts to undermine Arab security and stability.

The FM said the King welcomed Sisi’s visit and highlighted his country’s support for Egyptian efforts to achieve progress and prosperity, establishing security and combating terrorism in the region.

After Bahrain, the Egyptian President will visit China, where he will participate in the China-Africa Forum, and will hold a summit with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to discuss bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership.

The Egyptian President will conclude his trip by visiting the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, the first official visit of an Egyptian president to Uzbekistan.

Sisi will meet Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and a number of senior officials.
