The Mustaqbal Movement and the Lebanese Forces folded on Wednesday the page of their disputes by agreeing to start a new phase and overpass all obstacles that marked their relationship during the past few months.

A meeting held between Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea Tuesday at Hariri's Downtown Beirut residence was capable to break the ice between the two camps, without discussing disagreements that led to their separation in the past two months, LF sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.

Sources from both the Mustaqbal and the LF described the Hariri-Geagea meeting as “very good,” and said it would build for a new phase away from any political disputes that emerged prior to Hariri’s resignation from the cabinet last November and during the parliamentary elections.

The meeting would revive “the March 14 team,” and would affirm mutual cooperation and agreement concerning the country’s main titles, including the policy of dissociation from regional crises, the sources added.

Mustaqbal sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that the meeting was friendly and honest as it discussed all pending issues and it reaffirmed the strong relations between the two allies.

“It also opened important doors for a smooth lineup of the next cabinet,” the sources said, adding that Hariri and Geagea agreed on the country’s strategic policy and to particularly support the term of President Michel Aoun.

LF sources said that the meeting folded the page of disputes.

“Ministers Melhem Riachi from the LF and Ghattas Khoury from the Mustaqbal will follow up on the Hariri-Geagea meeting to determine the main titles for the upcoming phase,” they said.

Following his meeting with Hariri late Tuesday, Geagea said: “After a break that lasted several months, I was very pleased to meet with Prime Minister Saad Hariri.”

Geagea said he held in-depth discussion with Hariri.

“Among the points we discussed is the necessity to support the Presidential term,” he added.
