Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz telephoned on Wednesday Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the latest regional and international developments, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
The talks focused on the Syrian crisis, with both leaders stressing the importance of exerting efforts to reach a political solution there.
They also discussed cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Russia in order to reach stability in the global oil markets.
The Kremlin said in a statement that King Salman and Putin had “expressed readiness to expand fruitful coordination on world hydrocarbon markets”.
The statement did not offer any details on what that expanded coordination could entail.
It said the Saudi king had expressed his condolences to Putin regarding a plane crash at the weekend near Moscow that killed all 71 passengers and crew.
Earlier on Wednesday, King Salman had received in Riyadh Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak to discuss bilateral cooperation in the energy sectors, especially in restoring balance in the oil markets.
Later on Wednesday, King Salman received Bosnian Security Minister Dragan Mektić.
They tackled bilateral ties and ways to develop and bolster cooperation between the security agencies of their two countries.
